Titus was an engaging Roman guide that imparted some fantastic knowledge about the life of a Roman soldier. It was not necessarily Chester/Deva specific but the tour was jam packed with interesting facts, the guide was full of knowledge which he shared with engaging enthusiasm and the whole family (Inc children) enjoyed the tour immensely. Great value and I highly recommend this tour to see a different side to this gorgeous city and the life of a Roman soldier within these walls!

We booked the tour online on the day we visited Chester, which was a very simple process, and arrived to find that the 4 of us (2 x adults and 2 x under 11) would be joined by one other gentleman on the (very) wet tour that was hosted by Tiberius, our centurion. Tiberius was truly an excellent guide, talking knowledgeably and at ease with plenty of humour to both children and adults alike. Sadly, our fellow tourist (apparently a lecturer on the Roman Empire) considered it necessary to act as a second guide, often interrupting Tiberius and distracting him from his subject. Tiberius, however, handled the situation extremely well, not allowing himself to be put off by the interruptions and always remaining polite. Despite the interruptions, though, it was a fascinating tour full of interesting facts and the children loved it. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a historic perspective of Chester but please, if you're taking a break from lecturing on the Roman Empire to go on the tour, take a proper break and leave it to Tiberius!

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish! Our guide was called Gaius he looked the part and had a very deep knowledge of how the Roman soldier functioned! He gave an excellent insight into the dealings of the Roman soldier. His knowledge of Roman Chester was brilliant but he made everything so real. For me how he explained the amphitheater I almost felt I was sitting there. I’ve been on lots of tours before but this was just brilliant and super entertaining. Well worth the money if you visit Chester this should be an absolute must!!

Chester is approx 25 miles south of Liverpool and the Roman tour of the downtown area is not to be missed. This tour was made particularly enjoyable by the commentary of our Roman soldier-guide Pertinax. HIstory jumps out at the visitor from all angles in the downtown tour; not just Roman, but straight through to the present, Chester reveals itself through its artifacts and living structures; from Roman wall, amphitheater and subterranean ruins, to the half-timbered buildings featured in the pedestrian mall of downtown, Chester was a delight. Of particular enjoyment was the detailed dialogue provided by Pertinax during our walk through town. He brought out evidence of Roman culture from the obvious to the hidden; from the structural grid of downtown, to the foundations of Roman buildings that we viewed beneath current businesses. Highly recommended.

Having visited Chester many times over the past few years, I had noticed a Roman soldier wandering about the city giving tours. During my latest visit today, I noticed that he was there again outside the visitor centre., so we booked for the tour. We booked inside the centre, ( 1 adult & 2 concessions ), which came to £23. Now this sounds a lot, but trust me it was worth every penny! The tour was presented by "Centurion Tiberius", who took us around all the remaining Roman sites in Chester, with the added bonus of the underground crypt underneath one of the local coffee shops - (only the smaller groups get to go here). The best parts of the tours were down in the Roman Gardens and at the Ampitheatre. Tiberius is very knowledgeable about his subject and also injects a little humour into his talks. It's also great for kids, who he involves in his demonstrations. I can highly recommend this tour.

Titus was a brilliant, inspiring and fun host who had an incredible knowledge of... well pretty much everything!! He engaged every single one of us and I really could have listened to him all day. Joined the midday tour today which was led by John (aka the Centurion "Pertinax"). He was EXCELLENT. Brought Roman Chester to life for us in a informal way. A great mix of banter and historical facts. Was not speaking from a script but a true enthusiast and obviously VERY knowledgeable. Led a large group and kept us fully engaged for 90 minutes as we toured locations in Chester. Spent a lot of time answering our questions particularly those of the children on the tour. Our 8 year old boy really enjoyed it. A MUST DO in Chester !!

We were the only three visitors to show up on a cold day and our guide,Titus, gave us a very personalised and informative tour. He was clearly extremely knowledgeable about life during the Roman period. Titus gave us a view of life as a career member of the legion stationed in Chester during the time of the Roman occupation. We completed the tour with a visit to the amphitheater and a graphic description of what would have happened there so many years ago. We had a real appreciation of the suffering that would have been experienced there, even Titus’s puns were painful😂 Thanks and appreciation go to Titus for an interesting, funny and informative tour. 😁

Although authentically kitted out, our Roman soldier was not authentic in any other way. Having done a number of other city tours we were disappointed in the tour. Partly our fault as we had not appreciated it would be so exclusive to the Roman period but also found the guide rather annoying, laughing at his own poor jokes throughout rather than telling us more about this fascinating city.
